Biographical

The E. Beatrice Batson Shakespeare Collection (SC-34), focusing on the intersection of Shakespeare and the Christian faith, was begun upon the retirement of Dr. Batson, longtime English professor of Wheaton College. Students and friends donated funds and books to begin this often used and growing collection in her honor.

Currently the collection houses over 300 books, nearly 1000 articles, along with many videos and microfiche. A prized possession of the collection is a fourth edition folio of Shakespeare's Henry IV, published in 1685. It was a gift to Dr. Batson from her friends upon her retirement. It has been rebound and beautifully, yet discriminatingly, detailed.

It is the desire that the collection be used by all, especially those teaching Shakespeare. Though the collection is considered non-circulating, Wheaton College faculty may arrange for short-term loans at the discretion of Special Services staff.
