On Memorial Day, 1945, the Chicagoland Youth for Christ held a rally in the large outdoor stadium Soldiers Field that drew many thousands of people. One of the main attractions was track star Gill Dodd (below in track suit), who had just set a new record for the indoor mile. Robert Evans, still a chaplain in the United States Navy on active service, was also there to give his testimony and and to sell U.S. war bonds. Dodd id two laps around the enormous field as part of the program. Evans, as well as George Wilson (on Evans' right) and William Erny, humorously started the lap with him. Wilson was leader of the YFC club in Minneapolis and Erny was business manger of the Chicago YFC club. Below is a photo of the beginning of the event.
