Cartoons and Caricatures

The 1954 meetings in London inspired the cartoonists, perhaps more than any other evangelistic campaign in Graham’s ministry. Some cartoons took a rather bemused and amused look at the idea of an American revival meeting in England or at a religious services in Harringay Arena, usually used for boxing matches and dog races. Others strongly attacked Graham’s motives and methods or portrayed him as an agent of American culture, self-righteously assaulting British life. By the campaign's end, Graham's sincerity and openness and the success of the meetings in terms of attendance had won over the press (and cartoonists) to generally favorable coverage.
