“Biggest event of the Year.” 1948. Des Moines, Iowa, USA. Newspaper advertisement in the Des Moines Tribune, September 10, 1948. Although described as a Youth for Christ campaign, this meeting was in essence the same as the independent city campaigns that Graham would be leading for the next sixty years, almost always with Cliff Barrows (1923- ) as director of music and choir leader and George Beverly Shea (1909- ) as soloist. Gil Dodd (1918-1977) was a track star and YFC’s greatest attraction in these years. Guest speakers from the world of sports, music, politics or the military were usually part of Billy Graham’s evangelistic services, as well as those of many other evangelists. From Collection 360, Scrapbook 3. Dimensions: 16" x 23-1/2". See enlarged version of this poster. |
