| Telegram from Clara and Edith Torrey to Billy Graham, November 3, 1949. They were, respectively, the widow and daughter of R.A. Torrey Sr., one of the most prominent evangelists and Bible teachers of the previous generation (as well as founding president of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles or BIOLA, and thus a man closely identified with that city). The telegram is symbolic of the links tying Graham to the American Protestant Evangelical evangelistic tradition. The Torreys sent the telegram from their home in Wheaton, Illinois, where Graham had attended college. From Collection 360, Scrapbook 5. |
