Scope and Content
Brenda (Gatlin) Stevens was interviewed by Christl E. Kirchner on December 6, 1988, at the home of Stevens in Wheaton, Illinois. This interview was conducted as part of a Wheaton College class assignment. The events described in the interview cover the time period 1958-1988. The tape abruptly ends in mid-sentence on side two.
T1 (60 minutes). Family background, conversion, interest in agricultural missions, joins Missions to the World, internship in Detroit, Campus Crusade for Christ, works on a school farm, education system in Uganda, a typical day, adjusts to various problems, tribal conflicts, contrasts Ugandan and American life styles, difficulty in reaching Ugandans for Christ, first impressions of Uganda, need for stronger Christian life for Ugandan believers, difficulties in living in a foreign culture, Ugandan’s values system, God’s call for service in Africa, cultural barriers, Ugandan health problems.
