Series: News conference records
Subseries: A. Transcripts
Arrangement: Chronological
Date Range: 1963-1984
Volume: 1.4 cubic feet
Boxes: 1-4
Type of documents: Transcripts of news conferences
Notes: The staff probably also made most of the transcripts, although there are exceptions, such as those in folders 3-1, 3-10, 3-11. In some cases, the collection has more than one transcript for the same press conference, although the difference between the two versions are very minor. At these meetings he usually talks about past and upcoming crusades and then answers questions. These questions are often concerned with Christian or moral perspectives on current news stories, such as presidential elections, the civil rights movement, the Vietnam war, pornography, etc.
Exceptional items: There are also a few transcripts of meetings other than press conferences, such as Graham's appearance on talk shows (folders 2-8 through 2-10) and interviews of Graham on television or radio news programs (folders 1-23, 1-24, 2-9, 3-4, 3-10, 3-11, 3-13, through 3-20). Folder 3-4 contains the transcript of an interview with Barbara Waters. There is also one press conference of Ruth Graham's (folder 3-21) and a transcript of Carl McIntire's radio program, in which Graham was talked about but did not appear (folder 2-3, see also CN 74, T44). Of particular interest is the transcript in folder 1-3 of a press conference during the 1966 World Congress on Evangelism when Rachel Saint and Auca (Huaorani) Indian tribesmen talked about the conversion of that tribe after they had killed five missionaries in 1956. (The World Congress is also the subject of the earlier December 22, 1964 conference which Graham co-chaired with Carl Henry, see folders 1-2 and 4-6 as well as tape T25 and T27) Also of interest are press conferences concerned with Graham's trips to the Soviet Union in 1982 and 1984 (folders 4-24 through 4-26).
